Manchester United to rake in another £80m this summer

A clear-out is needed at Old Trafford

The 1-1 draw away to Birmingham was not a disaster for United, Birmingham have been on a great run of form. However, it did indicate that there is a spark missing from the Red Devils and at no time after they went behind did United really look confident of winning.

Yes they pressed and pushed but it was not wave after wave in the way that previous United sides would have done after being behind.

So, Alex Ferguson knows that his current squad is not good enough but before he brings players in, he will have to offload some players.

As the players are currently at Manchester United, there will be a demand for them. The price will be lower than what United paid but they should be able to recoup reasonable amounts of their transfer fee and of course, the wages will have been cleared out of the club.

Dimitar Berbatov looks the first to go and there will be few tears shed for the Bulgarian international. Much like Robbie Keane at Anfield, Berbatov has proven himself to be a massive player at a smaller or middle range club, without being able to cut it week in week out for a massive club.

There is no shame in this but it was hoped that when he signed on at Old Trafford, Berbatov would find the perfect stage for his lazy but oh so intelligent brand of football. A new challenge at a club where he will be expected to pull the strings could revitalise the players career.

Anderson and Nani are also tipped to leave, neither living up to their hype or inflated price tags.

Anderson has been the more effective of the two, the players cool as you like penalty in the Champions League final in Moscow being an obvious highlight but they rarely dominate games. Again, there will be no shortage of takers for the players.

Nemanja Vidic has had a lot of rumours surrounding him this transfer window and it is likely that he will be offloaded in the summer as well. Alex Ferguson ahs proved in the past with Staam that a defender leaving old Trafford isn’t always necessarily finished but if they have no desire to remain at the club, they will be offloaded.

Ben Foster is said to be available for a cut-price £4m and mystery man Zoran Tosic will be available for any reasonable bid.

So…a lot of out-goings at Old Trafford, which brings up two questions.

1) How much money will United be allowed to reinvest in the playing team?
2) Who are they after?

United fans, who do you want to see come in?
